CIVL Career Fair 2024
The CIVL Career Fair, held on March 19, 2024, was a significant event for years 3 and 4 undergraduates of the HKUST Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The career fair gave students an opportunity to interact with leading civil engineering companies and gain insight into the industry’s operations, work culture, and career opportunities.
The participating companies—Arup, AECOM, Dragages, Kumshing, Mannings and Meinhardt—set up booths to showcase their work and engage with the students. Representatives from each company were eager to answer the students’ questions and provide guidance on potential career paths.
Adding to the exhibits in the booths were presentations in Lecture Theater A, where representatives from the companies gave the students a taste of their work and the requisite skills and qualifications for different roles. The presenters included Mr. Alex Li and Ms. Giselle Lee, HR representatives from AECOM, Mr. Nelson Wong, people team representative from Arup, and Ms. Catherine Lee, HR & Corporate Communications Director from Dragages and CIVL alumni including Janice Pang (Class of 2022), assistant engineer (HKIE Scheme A) at Dragages, Mr. Lotus Auyeung (Class of 2005), assistant general manager at Kum Shing, Ir. Eric Lee (Class of 2018 and chartered in 2023) from Mannings. Ir. Stephen T. M. Mak, operation director — infrastructure, Ir. Allison Lung, senior engineer and Mr. David Yue, project engineer from Meinhardt also spoke at the event.
To top it off, Arup and Kumshing interviewed students on the spot. This gave the students an opportunity to showcase their skills and potentially secure a job or an internship. But even if the students didn’t get hired on the spot, the interviews still gave them a chance to gain experience and to network with industry professionals.
Overall, the CIVL Career Fair was a success, and the participating companies were impressed with the quality of the students and their enthusiasm for their prospects in the industry.
