HKUST CIVL Celebrates 35 Years of Excellence at Anniversary Gala Dinner
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST proudly celebrated its 35th Anniversary with a memorable Gala Dinner on 22 October 2026 at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel. The event welcomed more than 400 guests, including faculty members, alumni, students, industry partners, and friends of the Department, in a vibrant gathering that celebrated three and a half decades of achievements, innovation, and community.
The evening was honoured by the presence of distinguished guests, including Ir LAU Chun-kit, Ricky, JP, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works); Ir Hon Aaron BOK Kwok-ming, Legislative Council Member; Ir Prof. John KWONG, BBS, Vice-President for Development of HKUST; and Prof. Ricky Shi-Wei LEE, Vice President (Research) of HKUST (Guangzhou). The Department was also delighted to welcome members of its Advisory Board, whose continued guidance and support have contributed significantly to CIVL's development and success.
The celebration featured welcoming remarks from university and departmental leaders, including Ir Prof. John KWONG, BBS, Prof. Ricky Shi-Wei LEE, Dean of Engineering Prof. Hong K. LO, Head of Department Prof. Limin ZHANG, and President the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association President Ir Terence YAU. Together, they reflected on the Department's remarkable journey since its establishment and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing engineering education, research, and societal impact.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the HKUST CIVL Outstanding Alumni Awards 2026, recognizing alumni whose achievements have made significant contributions to academia, industry, and society.
