Civil Engineering Students Won the Championship in International Earthquake Engineering Competition 2015
The HKUST civil engineering undergraduate team has won the Championship (First Prize) of the Undergraduate Division (本科生組冠軍) and the postgraduate team has been the Runner-up (Second Prize) of the Postgraduate Division (研究生組亞軍) in an international earthquake engineering competition – the Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools (IDEERS) competition (抗震盃–地震工程模型國際競賽), held at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering, Taipei, Taiwan during 18-20 September 2015. In addition, the HKUST postgraduate team has also won the Best Presentation Award Third Prize in the competition.
This international competition was jointly organised by the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs) and the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) of Taiwan, and the British Council. 42 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate teams from different countries and regions of the world participated in the competition, which included the University of Tokyo, National University of Singapore, National University of Taiwan, etc.
In IDEERS 2015, the members of the HKUST civil engineering undergraduate team included Siu Kwan Choi (team leader), Ho Fai Chung, Po Hon Wong, Chi Fai Yuen, and the postgraduate team Nan Zhang (team leader), Chunyang Du, Cheng Ning Loong, Yang Liu.
