About the Award

To commemorate the 35th Anniversary of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIVL), jointly with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association (CEEAA), has established the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

The Awards aim to recognize and honor distinguished alumni who have demonstrated outstanding professional or academic achievements, as well as leadership and significant contributions to the alumni community, the profession, and society at large. Through this initiative, the Department seeks to celebrate the impact of CIVL alumni, strengthen alumni engagement, and inspire future generations of engineers and scholars.

Award categories 

• Outstanding Alumni Award (Academia Track)
• Outstanding Alumni Award (Industry Track)
• Outstanding Young Alumni Award (for candidates aged 35 or below by 1 January 2026)

Eligibility

Nominees for the Outstanding Alumni Awards must:

• Be a graduate of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, HKUST;
• Have successfully completed a programme and attained an academic qualification accredited by HKUST;
• Meet the specific age requirement for the Outstanding Young Alumni Award, if applicable (35 or below by 1 January 2026).

Nominations may be submitted for any award category provided the relevant eligibility requirements are fulfilled.

Selection Criteria

The major selection criteria include the nominee’s

(1) Professional development and experience;

(2) Impact and contribution to the profession or academia; and

(3) Leadership in alumni, departmental, societal and professional activities 

Key Dates

• Nominations Open: April 2026
• Nominations Close: 31 August 2026
• Awards Announcement: 1 October 2026
• Award Presentation Ceremony: October 2026, at the 35th Anniversary Dinner 

Award recipients will be invited to attend the Award Presentation Ceremony, during which their achievements and contributions will be formally recognized and shared.

Nomination Process

How to Nominate

We warmly invite members of the HKUST community, including HKUST staff, students, and alumni, to nominate deserving CIVL alumni for the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

Who can Nominate

• Nominations may be submitted by HKUST alumni, faculty members, staff, students, or other members of the community.
• The nominator must obtain prior consent from the nominee before submitting the nomination.
• *Self nominations are not accept. All nominations must be submitted by a nominator other than the nominee.

What to Submit

Each nomination must include the following documents:

• A completed Nomination Form (download here);
• A current curriculum vitae of the nominee;
• A two‑page statement highlighting the nominee’s professional experience, development, and achievements relevant to the selected award category;
• Two written references, including contact details of the referees.

Submission Deadline

All nomination materials must be received on or before 31 August 2026.
