Prof. ZHANG Limin Elected 2025 Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering
Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Prof. ZHANG Limin has been elected as a 2025 Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE). This prestigious recognition highlights Prof. Zhang’s exceptional contributions to the engineering field. The announcement was made during the 121st Council Meeting and Induction Ceremony for New Fellows, held on 24 November 2025, at Hopewell Inn in Wan Chai.
In addition to this honor, effective 1 January 2025, Prof. Zhang also assumes the title of Wilson H. Tang Professor of Engineering under the HKUST Named Professorships Program. This esteemed program, supported by generous donors, aims to honor and promote the achievements of the University’s top scholars. Prof. Zhang’s appointment adds to the growing list of distinguished named professors in the School of Engineering, further solidifying the School’s reputation for academic excellence.
Prof. Zhang is a globally recognized authority in geotechnical risk management, with a distinguished record of accolades, including the inaugural National Engineer Award and the ASCE Ralph B. Peck Award. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Georisk, a leading international journal that focuses on engineered systems and geohazards. His innovative project titled “Digital Twin-Empowered Landslide Emergency Risk Management” has received competitive funding through the Theme-based Research Scheme for 2023/24. Furthermore, he is co-leading a groundbreaking research initiative which aims to develop the world’s first lightweight, high-resolution, high-precision carbon dioxide (CO₂) and methane (CH₄) synergistic observatory payload.
The HKAE, established in 1994, is a prestigious organization dedicated to advancing engineering in Hong Kong. It fosters collaboration, innovation, and excellence in the engineering sector, significantly contributing to societal development and the progress of Hong Kong and the nation. The Academy comprises a distinguished group of Fellows across various engineering disciplines, recognized as leaders with remarkable achievements in engineering sciences and applications.
