Dr. Te Xiao Wins 75th Géotechnique Anniversary Early Career Award
Dr. Te XIAO, research assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has won the 75th Géotechnique Anniversary Early Career Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of geotechnics. The award is given in recognition of his insightful paper on AI and Statistics in geotechnics which has been published in the prestigious journal Géotechnique. Established in 1948, Géotechnique is the world’s premier geotechnics journal, publishing research of the highest quality on all aspects of geotechnical engineering.
Dr. Xiao’s article, “Predicting spatio-temporal man-made slope failures induced by rainfall in Hong Kong using machine learning technique”, uses innovative machine learning techniques to address the challenging landslide prediction issue in Hong Kong. This approach has the potential to significantly improve our ability to manage landslide risk, making infrastructure safer and more reliable.
