Dr. Xiao Te Wins Bright Spark Lecture Award
Dr. XIAO Te, research assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been named winner of the Bright Spark Lecture Award for an insightful lecture entitled “Machine learning–powered landslide forecasting: from initiation to mobility”. The lecture was delivered on 19 May 2023 during the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Geotechnical Division’s 43rd Annual Seminar, organized by the HKIE Geotechnical Division in collaboration with the Young Member Presidential Group (YMPG).
The Bright Spark Lecture Award is designed to spotlight talented young members of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), encouraging them to assume increasingly significant roles in international and regional conferences. In particular, recipients of the Bright Spark Lecture Award are invited to give keynote lectures at ISSMGE conferences.
As a young academic, Dr. Xiao conducts research that focuses on developing and applying machine learning algorithms to geotechnical engineering problems such as landslide forecasting. His work has already been published in numerous high-impact journals and has won him multiple accolades. We are therefore very delighted to congratulate Dr. Xiao not only on this particular award, but also for serving as an inspiration to other young, up-and-coming geotechnical engineers to strive for excellence in their respective academic and professional pursuits.
