The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is actively forming the Center for GREAT Smart City. The acronym for GREAT is Green, Resilient, Empowering, Adaptable, and Transformative. In this connection, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will have five faculty positions to advance the underpinning science and technology for smart city development. Specifically, we are seeking candidates with a solid background in infrastructural and environmental engineering, and a particular focus on:

Public policy formulation and analysis
We invite applications for substantiation-track faculty positions at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. Appointment at the Professor rank may also be considered for candidates with very strong academic record and international recognition.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in civil or a related engineering discipline. The appointee is expected to demonstrate strong potential for effective teaching and promising research, as well as play a key role in the development of projects in both fundamental and applied research.

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including medical and dental benefits, annual leave, and housing benefits will be provided where applicable. Initial appointment at Assistant/Associate Professor rank will normally be made on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Appointment at Professor rank will be on substantive basis.
