Prof. Guanghao Chen Honored with Global Sanitation Graduate School Ambassador Award

Prof. Guanghao Chen, Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST, has been awarded the prestigious Ambassador Award by the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS). The award “recognizes individuals whose exceptional contributions have significantly advanced the mission of GSGS.”

The GSGS, founded in 2017 and headquartered at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands, is the world’s largest platform facilitating and empowering the development and dissemination of sanitation-related knowledge, through graduate and post-graduate programs as well as professional training. GSGS’s East Asia Hub (one of six of the School) is hosted in the Hong Kong SAR, with Prof. Chen serving as a strategic advisor on its management team. In fact, Prof. Chen has been a dedicated, integral part of GSGS since its inception, serving on the School’s Monitoring and Evaluation Team to oversee the assessment of academic proposals for funding from partner institutions in Asia, thereby helping to strengthen the GSGS framework and facilitate the expansion of its master’s programs to universities in (Southeast) Asia. As an Ambassador of GSGS, Prof. Chen will continue his leadership and commitment to not only exemplifying and amplifying the values of GSGS, but also inspiring future generations of sanitation professionals worldwide.

The Department sends our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Chen for this well-deserved honor!
