Prof Christopher Leung Receives CIC Innovation Award in Construction Productivity
Every two years, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) of Hong Kong gives out a number of awards to recognize construction innovations. In December 2019, Prof. Christopher Leung, together with collaborators from Chun Wo Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd. and the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Ltd. (NAMI), received the Second Prize in the Construction Productivity category. The team has developed a novel fiber reinforced repair material that can recover the load carrying capacity of concrete slabs with corroded steel reinforcements without the addition of a new reinforcing bar. As there is no need to remove a large volume of sound concrete on both sides of the corroded area to provide sufficient bond length for the new rebar, there are significant savings in time and cost as well as reduction in noise and dust produced during the repair process.
