IAS Conference on Computational Geomechanics

The IAS Conference on Computational Geomechanics (CG2024) was a resounding success, bringing together 65 world leaders in the field to discuss cutting-edge research and challenges. Held at HKUST IAS Lecture Theater from March 3-6, 2024, the event was chaired by Prof. Jidong Zhao, with Prof. Charles Ng and Prof. Limin Zhang as co-chairs (Prof Zhenyu Yin of PolyU also served as a co-chair).

The four-day event was packed with engaging lectures, stimulating discussions, and valuable insights. With a total audience of over 160, the conference provided a platform for exchange and learning, particularly for the younger generation of students and researchers. The atmosphere was vibrant and intellectually stimulating, fostering a sense of inspiration and shared purpose.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST proudly co-sponsored the conference alongside the Institute for Advanced Study and the Global Engagement and Communications Office of HKUST, and the K.C. Wong Education Foundation. Dean Prof. Hong K. Lo graced the event with his presence and delivered a warm welcome. The conference was also supported by TC103 and TC105 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), and the prestigious Scott Sloan Best Paper Awards by Computers and Geotechnics, Elsevier, were presented during the event.
