CIVL PhD Student to Represent HKUST in Asia-Pacific Three Minute Thesis Competition

Mr. George Grigoropoulos, CIVL PhD student supervised by Prof. Mohamed Ghidaoui, has been crowned champion of the HKUST Three Minute Thesis Competition, and will represent the University at the 2022 Virtual Asia-Pacific Three Minute Thesis Competition, to be held in October 2022.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition is an annual academic research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland, Australia. It provides an opportunity for research students to develop and showcase their academic, presentation, and research communication skills by explaining their research to a non-specialist audience via presentations that last for no more than three minutes. 3MT® competitions are not limited to individual universities or countries; they are held regionally around the globe.

Mr. Grigoropoulos’s research mainly focuses on techniques to detect acoustic defects in pipes, pressure transient analysis, the time reversal of waves and its applications, structural analysis of shell structures, and waveguide characterization via both analytical and experimental means.

We congratulate Mr. Grigoropoulos, and wish him success at the October competition.
