CIVL PhD graduate’s research work recognized by the University of Hawaii at Manoa
Dr. Samir Khanal (PhD, 2002), Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has received the 2016 Excellence in Research Award from the College of Tropical Agricultural and Human Resources, University of Hawaii.
Dr. Khanal is an internationally recognized researcher in biofuel and environmental biotechnology, and has played a critical role in establishing a state-of-the-art research program that interfaces bioenergy with the environment. He has generated more than $3 million in research grants and produced an impressive array of publications including two best-selling books on bioenergy and biotechnology. Dr. Khanal’s research focuses on resource recovery from wastes and residues and anaerobic digestion. He has supervised over 30 graduate students and several postdocs, many of whom have gone on to join the academia worldwide.
