Prof. Irene Lo Awarded 2004 James Croes Medal

Prof. Irene Lo has been selected as the recipient of the 2004 J. James Croes Medal by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in recognition of her contribution to "Innovative Waste Containment Barriers for Subsurface Pollution Control". The highly coveted and prestigious Croes Medal is awarded for "notable contributions to engineering science". 

The Croes medal was established by the Society on October 1, 1912, and is named in honor of John James Robertson Croes, Past President, ASCE. The award consists of a gold-plated medal and a certificate. The past well-known recipients include Prof. Andrew Whittle of MIT, Prof. Perry McCarty of Stanford University and Prof. David Daniel of University of Illinois. In the past 15 years, none of the recipient of the James Croes Medal is Asian. Prof. Lo is the first Asian researcher receives such a prestigious award. The medal and certificate will be presented at the ASCE National Convention in Baltimore in October, 2004.
