Prof Guanghao Chen and PhD Gradute Dr Hui Lu, Reap Awards at IWA and IFAT With Sustainable Water Supply System and Novel Sewage Treatment Technology
Prof Guanghao Chen has been presented the Honour Award of Project Innovation Awards (PIA) in the category of Applied Research in the East Asia Region by the International Water Association (IWA) at the Singapore International Water Week on July 02, 2012, the world’s largest water event. The team developed an innovative triple water supply system at the Hong Kong International Airport, saving 52% freshwater consumption. His research team partners include the Hong Kong Airport Authority, the Water Supplies Department, the Drainage Services Department, the University of Cape Town in South Africa and the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. IWA’s Project Innovation Awards, established in 2006, recognizes innovation and excellence in water engineering projects. All regional awards will enter the Global PIA Awards competition and the awards ceremony will be held during the 8th IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition in Busan, Korea on September 16-21, 2012.
Dr Hui Lu, a PhD graduate of Prof Chen at HKUST, won the 2nd prize of Huber Technology Award at 2012 IFAT ENTSORGA 2012 on May 08, 2012, the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste, and raw materials management with estimated visitors of 125,000, for his PhD work in developing and demonstrating the SANI process reducing 90% sewage sludge and 50% treatment cost. Dr Lu is the only awardee from Asia. The Huber Technology Prize, set up by the Huber Technology Foundation, awards outstanding young researchers in the world on innovative water technology development. Huber Technology is a world’s leading multinational water technology company based in Germany.
