HKUST students won LEKO Low-carbon Technical Award at 2018 TECO Technological Innovation Contest

A team from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST struck award at the 2018 TECO Technological Innovation Contest on 22 August 2018. The team made up of Qian Zeng, Weiqi Xue, Feixiang Zan and Xiling Li (students of Prof. Guanghao Chen and Dr. Tianwei Hao) was awarded a LEKO Low-carbon Technical Award for the technology Low Energy Electrical Odour control of sludge (LEEO).

The purpose of this innovative technology is to control hydrogen sulfide production from excess sludge as well as dewaterability enhancement. The technology has the distinct advantage of offering not only an energy-efficient approach for sludge treatment, but also a solution to the sludge stabilization for resources recovery.
