HKUST Student Wins Climate Research Outstanding Paper Award

Mr. Tat Fan Cheng, a second-year PhD student of CIVL supervised by Prof. Mengqian Lu, has received the Zhu Kezhen Prize (竺可楨獎) from the Hong Kong Meteorological Society for their paper titled “Moisture Source-Receptor Network of the East Asian Summer Monsoon Land Regions and the Associated Atmospheric Steerings”. The paper is published in the American Meteorological Society’s Journal of Climate, a top academic journal of the field. The news is also posted in the Society’s newsletter Issue 5 in March 2021.

The Zhu Kezhen Prize is awarded annually to “a meritorious publication in the field of meteorology”, and Mr. Cheng is its first HKUST awardee. More importantly, this recognition gives a seal of approval to HKUST’s rising role in meteorology and climate research.
