Dr Michele De Filippo Wins HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers 2019

The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers announced last week that Dr Michele De Filippo, HKUST CIVL PhD graduate supervised by Prof J S Kuang, won the HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers 2019. The Award will be presented at the HKIE Presidential Address/Dinner to be held on 20 September 2019. Dr De Filippo is invited to present the awarded paper entitled “Automated assessment of reinforced concrete slabs using a pseudo-lower bound method: Case studies”, co-authored by J S Kuang, in a Public Lecture scheduled for 25 September 2019 at the HKIE Headquarters.

Michele was admitted to the CIVL PhD programme in Fall 2016 and conducted research on reinforced concrete plasticity, concrete slab failure mechanisms and load-carrying capacity, and computational optimisation technique for concrete mechanics. He successfully passed the PhD examination in June 2019.
